Hunter reflects on his year and the future........

Happy Wednesday everyone,

            The semester is winding down, but it feels like the work is still adding up. Professors are trying to get last minute assignments in, but with such a short time left in the semester, all you can do is keep grinding out each day and get the job done.

            Since it’s my last blog, I just want to give a shout out to all the seniors this year. I didn’t know what to expect coming here to Fredonia in August, but the way I was treated as a “new guy” was top notch and the senior class was a big part of my experience here. I hope that one day I can do the same for future freshman who will be coming into the program. I have been playing hockey for many years, and have been on many teams along the way, but I can say this is the closest group of men I have ever been around in my life, and it was an honor to play with such high-class group of guys.

For the seniors, I hope and wish the best of luck through the next chapter in your life. You always have a place to stay if you make it down south of the Mason-Dixon Line. And for the boys that are returning…I need a good 3-month break from y’all. HA!

Wilky counting down the days until exams are over......

Well we're getting close to the end of the year. Everyone is counting down the days till they get to go home. It's been a long second semester but it feels that it has gone by fast. I've been kept very busy with school work as of late and I can't wait to be done with it for a few months. Since the weather hasn't been that good as of late I think it has helped with being able to go study in the library instead of hanging out outside with all the boys.

Flags reflects on the year........

I can’t believe how fast this year went by.  It seemed like it was just yesterday I was coming to Fredonia for the first time.  I came to school not knowing what to expect, but soon realized what I needed to do in order to be a successful student-athlete.  I feel that I have grown as a person and a lot of that has to do with the people I was surrounded by all year long.  My teammates as well as my coaching staff and teachers have helped me a lot throughout the year.  This year I had a lot of responsibilities as I had to juggle between practicing and playing games as well as working out and then I had to make sure I kept up on my studies.  Having those responsibilities made me a stronger, more confident person as I found myself being able to answer the bell when it came to juggling those things.  

It has been a great first year at Fredonia and I can’t wait to have another two years here.  I plan on growing more and more each year and I am very excited.  This was an opportunity of a lifetime to come here and I won’t soon forget that.

Hello readers, I can't believe that this will be my last blog of the year. My freshman year was definitely one to remember. I've met some great people, and will never forget the seniors moving on. As a sophomore next year it will be my job to welcome in the freshman like the guys did for me. Sunday's for me usually consist of homework and relaxing, but today Hunter and I are grabbing are fishing poles and heading down to the creek.

Nice little Saturday here in Fredonia! A few of the boys went to watch the girls lacrosse game for Senior Day. The weather could be a little bit nicer here but hey, at least it's not snowing. The semester is winding down and before we know it we will be heading home for the summer. These next few weeks are going to fly by and there's a lot of work to be done. The NHL playoffs have been great to watch. Lots of back and forth hockey with a lot of scoring always makes for a good game! Until next time....

"It goes by fast" Kauf says..........

Kauf here with my last blog of the year; sitting along side my roommate John 'JD' Defeo watching the Wings/Bruins game and we can't help but reminisce and chat about how fast this year has gone by and the memories that have been made along the way. It seems like only yesterday we moved into the house together, but as these last few weeks are winding down we definitely feel the urge to go home, hit the links, the lake (the ocean in John's case) and make a little money along the way. In saying that though, I personally know I'll be missing this place after a few weeks.

Melky hitting the links.........

Hello all, Cory Melkert here checking in for my last blog of the year. 

 

Time is winding down on my junior year here at Fredonia. Sometimes I wonder where the time has gone, all three of my years here at school have gone by so quickly. Looking ahead to summer I have mid-June circled on my calendar because I get to fly down to New York City and Long Island to visit my good pal #21 of the FSU Devils, Stephen Castriota. We will then make our way down to North Carolina to attend the U.S Open Golf Championship to root for our guy Tiger Woods.

With the weather around here starting to come around I can hopefully get a few rounds of golf in for myself with a couple of my teammates. It is always fun to swing the clubs with the boys on a nice Sunday afternoon here in Fredonia. I'm also excited for next years hockey season, knowing that we have a group of guys that can do something special. With only three weeks left in the school year I will be saying goodbye now to the blogging world and look forward to connecting with you all next year.

Trebes now GM of roller hockey team........

Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter break just as I did.  

It’s going to be a fairly busy week for me as it’s a grind to get ready for finals week. Over break I got a roller hockey team together over the summer as we had our first game this past Saturday. Although we lost, it was a great experience as it was my first time playing in an actual roller hockey game. 

To start off my day today I went to Tim Horton’s as I normally do if I have a quiz or test that day as it’s important to get a solid breakfast to get the mind going. Feeling pretty good about the quiz as I took, the night before to look over the notes and understand the material. About to go to the gym and lift with the boys and get ready for next year as it all starts in the gym. Although my team (Buffalo Sabres) isn’t in the playoffs I have to say I want Pittsburgh to go far. It would be nice for them to make it to the Cup as I would possibly be able to get tickets for a playoff game, but it would be at a significant price. As I look at it, it would be money well spent because those experiences are once in a lifetime.

Whitey drowning the worms at home for Easter.....

It has been a nice relaxing little break here at home for Easter weekend.  I spent a lot of time with my family and friends.  

 

Easter Sunday we went to my cousin’s house at the lake and barbecued all afternoon.  It was nice to visit and catch up with some of my relatives that I very seldom see along with eat a lot of home cooked food, which is one thing I don’t miss about being away at school.  My oldest brother happened to get back from a electrical lineman school he attended for 4 months down in Tennessee, so we spent some time together and went golfing Sunday morning before the cookout.  It is safe to say my golf game got a tad rusty over the winter, but I’m not too worried it will come back when I get home for the summer. 

 

I also got the chance to go fishing my first day back home, the alarm went off around 6 and I headed up about 20 minutes north of my house to the middle of no where and drown a worm for about 4 hours.  Although I did not have any luck its one of my favorite things to do for relaxation, just me, the woods, and the water; no cell phone service so I can just relax and be free of stress and worries. 

 

The weekend was a nice little taste of summer, but Tuesday its back to the books to stay focused and enjoy these last few weeks of school with the boys.  Until next year, have a great summer Blue Devil Fans.

How Canada was named......you gotta read this...........

Hello All!

I hope everyone’s Easter break was nice and relaxing.

I’ve had a pretty busy two weeks, as you can see in Frankie Hart’s last post. I had 4 exams in two days and this week I had 1 exam, 1 quiz, and 2 assignments so this long weekend was much needed for me. 

It’s been pretty relaxing up in the north of Toronto.  Hanging out with my family has been great watching the hockey playoffs, the Toronto Raptors and some of the Blue Jays games so I’m feeling like a true sports fan.

While watching sports, my sister who is a student at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto made each of my family members pick a medical topic to learn, to quiz her for upcoming exams.  I was responsible for learning some of the different parasites for her Microbiology course which turned out to be a pretty disgusting topic.  This was part of 1 exam, out of the 11 she has coming up within the next two weeks, just bringing exam season to a whole new level for her.

Myself being a Canadian I want to share with you a little history of Canada. When Canada first became a Country the Queen of England was trying to figure out a proper name for this great place. She came up with names that would suite this cold land mass such as: “Florida (but that was already taken), The Republic of Syrup, New Beaverland, or ‘Is this pond frozen yet?’” but she was not satisfied with any of these names so she summoned somebody from the Great White north to help her in the name creation process, whose name was Jacques Zamboni.  Jacques came up with a great idea that the Queen really liked so they moved forward with it by putting all the letters of the alphabet into a barrel and Jacques would pick out one by one. The first letter he pulled out he said was “it’s a ‘C’, eh!” then said, “it’s a “’N’, eh!” and then a “’D’, eh!” and that’s how we came up with CANADA.

This is one of my grandpa’s corny jokes I thought you guys would like to hear, but in all seriousness Canada’s name originated from an Indian tribe that named this land mass Kanata before it was changed into Canada.

Mobey and the boys barbecue for Easter.......

Good evening everybody, Moby here.

I hope you all are enjoying the Easter and the lovely weather. It has been a pretty silent weekend here at Fredonia since most of the boys went home for Easter. However we were lucky with the weather and I have tried to enjoy it as much as I could.

Today I have been hanging out with Al Perkins (Rex) and Ryan Edens. We got a really nice tanning session in at Ryan's place, After that it was time for the opening night at our new restaurant "Rex BBQ and Grill". Al did a great job with the barbecue while I put the last touch on the dishes. Ryan on the other hand was entertaining our guests with his extraordinary voice. Do I have to mention that our concept was a success?

Bourney and a few of the boys still in Fredonia over Easter Break....

There isn't too much exciting going on in Fredonia these days, except for the start of the NHL Playoffs.  With the playoffs starting on Wednesday I have been working hard to get my homework done by 7:00 every night so I can watch the games.  There have already been many exciting games with St. Louis and Chicago going to three overtimes on Thursday night.  Last night was a good night for my Detroit Red Wings as they were able to beat the Presidents Trophy winning, Boston Bruins 1-0, with the goal coming with just over three minutes left in the game, it was an exciting game to watch.
Many of the guys went home for the Easter break but a few of us stayed in Fredonia for break, we will be catching up on homework and watching hockey. The few of us that are staying in Fredonia include chef Christ and chef Kaufmann and if we ask nicely maybe we can ask them to cook us another holiday meal that would rival the thanksgiving day meal we had.

Cribs.....Fred Hockey style..........

Hey Everyone,

After numerous attempts at posting a video to the blog, me and my roommate, Mitch Kaufmann, decided to throw in the towel.  We were trying to mix up the scene here on the Fredonia State Hockey Blog by posting a video of our take on the popular show MTV cribs, Fred State Hockey Edition. Showing you bloggers how college hockey players live off campus.  I don't want to give away too much because we might get in touch with our video tech guru, Tim Bracken and post it at a future time.  

But besides that we had a beautiful, sunny day here in Fredonia, and what better way to end the night with playoff hockey.  Sitting on the couch watching my Rangers beat up the Philly Flyers, what a great way to end my evening.  That's it for tonight folks.  Be sure to stay tuned in for that Fred State Hockey Cribs video hopefully soon.

Easter = Home cooked meals..........

Hey folks its Mackenzie McAvoy on the blog for this Thursday.

 

It's almost time for Easter in which we get an extended weekend and all the boys are looking forward to it. Most of the boys are heading back to their homes and are looking forward to getting home cooked meals, as recently named captain, Cory Melkert would refer it to as "having his mother serve him gourmet food". As for myself I will be heading back home tomorrow as well, and hoping to get a chance to make it out to the golf range for some practice for the upcoming golf season. Being that there are only 16 regular school days left this year, all the boys can really feel summer coming, and we all realized how fast this year has really gone by. However, Mother Nature here in Fredonia does not want it to be spring yet. As the year is coming to a end and guys are picking classes for next year, and of course picking our favorite class "Advanced Conditioning", the guys are really excited for next year, and looking forward to having a good season, especially when the stick reps came in which we got to take a look at some new lumber and pick our curves and all that sorts of stuff. 

 

Now that the NHL Playoffs have started, it give us something to watch in our spare times instead of wheeling around in Garrett's wheel chair.  Most of the guys have made their playoffs prediction brackets. For myself I predict the finals to be San Jose and Boston, and I'm not really to sure why I picked those teams, just kind of a guess mostly. 

 

Anyway I hope everyone is having a great day, and has a great Easter weekend.  Safe travels to all the boys who are traveling home.

Garrett rolling campus on crutches.......

Crutching to the end of the year!

Hey everybody, it's Garrett Moore. The last couple weeks have been a little rough for me as I broke my ankle playing intramural floor hockey.  To get around, I started on a wheel chair to help reduce swelling. Now I've graduated to crutches. 

My teammates and other students have helped greatly. Holding doors for me and assisting with anything I need. Poor Frankie Hart goes to Willy C every day to get me food. He also gives me the occasional piggy-back ride when I complain about my crutches. It's somewhat unfortunate but things happen and I'll be just fine.

Aside from my ankle, things have been pretty low-key as of lately. Mostly just focusing on classes and my homework. Now that it's getting nice out, class work is a little harder to focus on.  But it's time to start preparing for exam week which is quickly approaching.

I'd also like to throw out a big congratulations to Cory Melkert on being named our captain for next year. After my conversations with him he has great intentions for the 14-15 hockey season. I'm looking forward to playing with him as our leader. 

With that being said, best of luck to all of my teammates with the remainder of the school year. Also, best of luck to our graduating seniors that are moving on to the next stages of their lives.

We give up, Winter wins.......

Hey everybody, 

Well yesterday I was wearing flip flops and shorts with a t shirt.. and today I'm rocking a long sleeve and winter coat. I don't understand why it decided to snow, but as you can tell by the picture  the weather decided to make a drastic change. Slightly annoying but what can ya do. Not the best start to the day.

Other than that, I had one class this morning followed by a workout at noon, and I'm about to meet up with some of the guys for dinner here before me and Brian Doust head on over to Scuba class. We are actually enjoying it twice a week here and have a blast putting on all the gear and hanging out in the dive tank for an hour or so. It's a nice little class to look forward to at the end of the day and recommend anybody give it a shot if they ever get a chance too!

Looking forward to Easter Weekend

Well its been a real busy day for me here on the campus of Fredonia. This is the first break I've had since 9am.  It started off real nice waking up to 70 degree weather but now the rain and wind have picked up.  I've been doing work here in the library and will be all night.  Me, Melky, and Matecki have been grinding away at Stats getting ready for our big test tomorrow.  Good thing we have Ryan Edens to guide our way through this.

After this test its only a few short days until Easter break.  Looking forward to spending the weekend with family.  Its always nice to get away from campus for a little while and relax a little bit.  But once we get back next week finals will be here before we know it and that's when the real grind starts. 

Well hope everyone enjoys the rest of the week and the little break this weekend.  Tune in tomorrow as I think Jared Wynia takes over the blog.

Leafs and Sabres teeing off.......

Hey guys Forsy here on another day at Fredonia.  So this week is a pretty big week for the NHL as the playoffs start and the real battle begins.  Unfortunately for me, my Leafs are going to miss the playoffs this year after just a brutal collapse over the last month.  I'm sure all the boys will be giving me the gears about it, but hey still better than the Sabres and the Oilers.  A couple of the rounds I'm most excited to watch are the Chicago and St. Louis series and LA and San Jose.  The Western conference style of play is unreal to watch if you haven’t seen it before as they play with a very physical style, which is even at a higher level in the post season.  I'm going to try and do something new here and predict the first round winners and in two weeks in my next blog will see how I do…. Eastern conference winners will be Boston, Tampa, Pittsburgh and New York.  The western conference winners will be Colorado, Chicago, Anaheim and LA.

The Masters........

Not much going on around here these days but cramming for finals and getting the junior year wrapped up on a strong note. Been watching the Masters the last couple days and feeling this nice weather coming our way, has me itching to be out on the course again out west. The local course will have to do for now. Not that challenging, but fun everytime a couple of us head out there for a round or two. Looks like it will be a busy summer and senior finish to the end. Registering for classes is always a crazy time, but senior selections were something else. The final courses you'll take of college, and trying to figure out and be careful to pick the right ones that you actually need to have to graduate was a process in itself. But that being said, its exciting and scary to finally be winding down to the end, have had such a good time a Fredonia thus far and can't believe it's about to end so quickly.
