Cossy goes down memory lane

It's crazy to think about being a senior on the team already.  Time definitely flew by the past three years, and going into my last year I'm reminded of all of the great moments I've had and people I've met playing hockey.  When I was playing high school hockey in Michigan for Fredonia State alum and All-American Jeff Lupu my best memory was definitely scoring the game winning goal against Clarkston HS with 23 seconds left.  They were a team we weren't supposed to beat, but the excitement for our first-year program was huge and tons of fans came out to fill the arena.  I've never heard a place erupt so loudly, and it was for sure one of my greatest memories as a hockey player.  It makes me think of winning a championship in the NOJHL as well, and how much of a bound you establish with guys that you play with and for every night.  Being a 4-year college athlete is difficult in any sport, and coming into your senior year with a good group of guys that respect one another for the commitment and dedication it takes to accomplish that feat brings everyone closer together.  I know we're all excited for the year to come, and it will certainly be exciting to see how the young guys that became the old take over the leadership positions to bring the whole team together for a great season.

Nunner wins Physics Award while losing in racquetball

Hello again.  We are in the last few weeks of the school year. Workouts have been great, everyone is feeling a good pump.  Class is getting harder to pay attention with the weather being so nice.  All the boys are doing well, besides Hehrsy who is on suicide watch for his Canucks going down to LA.  Play-off hockey is really exciting this year, tons of games.  I have my second favorite team in the NHL to cheer for in the Flyers.  Maybe one day my Isles will make it in again.

Currently I am losing a racquet series with Wynia. If I had to estimate the series I would be down 3-50.  I know he won SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, but I think it’s time he switches sports.  On the same subject of racquetball, I’m glad Edens is a confidence booster.

I recently found out I won an Award for the Physics Department this year.  The award ceremony is a week from Thursday, but if you ask me I think it is an elaborate prank.  I am excited to see what it is for.

Castriota can't believe how fast this year has gone

Time flew by so quickly my first year at Fredonia.  It feels like it was only yesterday that we were checking into the dorms and just getting to meet everyone around campus.  It has definitely been a great year here on and off the ice.  Now that its getting close to the end of the year it is time to buckle down and really focus in on finishing up the academic semester strong.  My classes are going well this semester and my grades have been pretty good, hopefully it will help our team reach our goal of having the highest GPA among all sports teams.

OC, date night and Dirty Mits

John O’Connor here, its 10pm on the dot here in the McEwen computer lab. Kody VanRentergem directly to my right, as I take a quick break from our first aid project.  The defending StanleyCup Champion Boston Bruins are out, however I need to choose my studies over leisure right now.

I’m also not welcome in my own apartment right now since Tyler Palmerton and Rob Michalka are currently having a double movie date.  Hopefully the Grinch and I can motor through this project, and the boys will end date night early so I can get some much needed R&R.

That being said, we're on the eve of a huge ball hockey game against Dirty Mits which consist of Kody VanRentergem, Al Perkins as well as Fredonia States leading scorer on the season Bryan Ross.  It should be a battle as both teams are 3-1and looking for optimal seeding in the play-offs just over a week away.  Back to the project.
Until next time,

Junger in the home stretch

Its getting down to the end of things here for my junior year, when the seniors my freshman year said it goes by fast I never thought that it would fly by this fast. Hard to believe I will be a senior next year and that it may very well might be my last year of playing competitive hockey. Its also hard to believe that I only have one year left till I have to go into the real world and actually get a real job. With only about four weeks left its time to buckle down and make sure everything with school grade wise is going as planned. Especially with some fun weeks coming up with Fred Fest and everything else. Hard to believe, scary, and exciting all at the same time, will be fun to see what the future holds for me.

Matecki can't believe he has only 2 weeks left in his freshman year

It's very hard to believe that there is only 2 weeks left to my freshman year.  The school work is starting to build up and it can be easy to fall behind with the NHL playoffs going on and nice weather.  I must say its nice to see Vancouver go down to LA though.  However, the boys have been together all the time grinding out the school work and then enjoying some playoff hockey.  So far since the season has ended it's been a lot of fun, but its also been a lot of hard work being put into next season.  All the boys have been working hard in the gym and on the same page which is good to see.  On a side note, the Kings are my favorite team in the playoffs this year and are going to go on to win the cup hopefully.

Mules knows the work is piling up as finals loom

The year is winding down, the weather is getting nicer, and the school work is starting to pile up here. It is going to be tough these next couple weeks, considering its 40 degrees out today. Also, the intensity of these NHL Playoffs makes it tough to get work done at nights, because you don't want to miss anything, But I am getting it done. All the boys have looked good in the gym as well, and everybody seems to be enjoying the David Ridos workout plan.

Freeze eager to get going

This time of year is always very busy, as classes are wrapping up and we are preparing for final exams. The weekends are a great time to  have some fun, relax, and watch some great playoff hockey which is what I was able to do this weekend. Some of the alumni guys were in town as well, and it was very nice to see them and do some catching up. The year here has gone by very fast, and I'm so happy that I have another great year to look forward to. We are working hard off the ice right now, as we know what a battle the season will be when that time approaches. The work we are putting in now will help us be ready!!

This brief break from being on the ice has been nice, and I think it is very important to spend some time away from it. It gives me time to think about my goals and what I want to accomplish, and gives me a rest both mentally and physically. I can't wait to get back to practicing again though, and not being able to right now will make me appreciate it so much more when we get back to work. It's nice to spend some time in the empty arena, imagining what exciting things next season will bring. I can't wait to get back on the ice already, and am looking forward to stepping back on it again in September.

Melky sticking with underdog Sens

I am sitting here in Hemmingway Hall on a rainy Sunday afternoon watching alot of NHL hockey. It is the best time of year when the NHL playoffs begin. That being said my Ottawa Senators are in a great spot right now with Muhsers Rangers. Its a little hostile in the dorms these days with everyone cheering for there favorite teams but it all doesn't even matter because the underdogs of Ottawa are gonna suprise everyone. Other than the NHL playoffs, my freshman year here at SUNY Fredonia is coming to its end. Final exams are coming up which means alot of time grinding in the library to get that GPA up to where it needs to be. That's really all I have for now until next time tune into NBC sports to watch the Ottawa Senators and stay classy.

No more hoop for Christer

The other week I finally concluded that basketball is the worst sport, due to the fact that Mr. Melkert thought it would be a good idea to tear my ACL during a friendly game. Don’t worry Corey I don’t hold grudges. With all that happening school is coming to an end very quickly, final tests and paper due dates are creeping up. You really realize it when you find yourself having sleepovers in the library. As these next couple of week come to an end it will be nice to get to go home and enjoy a home cooked meal and kick back and relax.

Palmy getting ready for academic post season

Tyler Palmerton here. I'm sitting in the library attempting to do some homework. Its not going so well, as concentrating is kind of hard. Why? Because its the post season in the NHL. Some of the best hockey you'll see is on tv. But not only is there hockey on tv, there's hockey on tv all day every day. Whether your favorite team is in the playoffs or not, you still find yourself catching up on scores, plays and any other info you can get about what is going on. I already know some of the boys have left the library to go watch some of the games. Hopefully they have there homework done. If not, they better do it. With only a few weeks left of regular classes, the whole school will be hitting "the post-season". Studying for tests, long hours in the library, working hard at getting their own "Stanley Cup", A's on all of their exams. Good luck boys.

Gunner pointing towards next season

With a rough stretch of tests and papers coming up and the Stanley Cup playoffs games being aired everyday its becoming harder and harder to keep concentration, but
I've managed to keep it together. My workout group is working hard we all know next season is almost on the horizon and there is work to be done both on and off the
ice. With everything coming together right now and school going into the final stretch I know what I have to do order to be successful.

Mike Muhs bleeding Ranger Blue

Its now getting to be that time of the year when things are going by faster then ever.  The school work has been revving up and so far I feel I've done a pretty good job staying on top of things.  Along with school work getting more intense, my first season participating in intramural floor hockey is inching closer to playoffs.  I'm playing on a solid squad with guys of diverse athletic backgrounds and unfortunately dropped our first game of the season last week (now 5-1) to Palmy and OC's team in an overtime thriller.  I'm pretty sure we're still in first but we will certainly be looking for some vengeance come playoff time.  Speaking of first place, the Rangers are gearing up for game three against the goon squad over in Ottawa and the TV is calling my name...Gotta love playoffs! Go Rangers!

Hehrsy can't believe it's really happening...

Well I am sitting here watching the Rangers and Sens playoff game, still just devastated that the Canucks felt the need to drop the first three games to LA. I am quite nervous for game 4 in a couple days, but it isn't over until it's over. This has been a very good playoffs so far, except I am frustrated that we do not get to see any of the CBC intro's for the games which, in my opinion, is one of the best parts of playoffs. Over the easter break, Grinch, his wife Megan, Cossie, Perks and I attended the Jays vs Indians game in Cleveland. Jays won so that really topped our trip off, right after the game we walked across the street and went to the AHL game between Erie and Rockford. That was the first ever AHL game I have been too so that was a neat experience. The Erie Monsters, by far, play the best clips in between whistles. Every whistle a ridiculous movie clip plays, which is pretty entertaining. Well Muhs is going nuts here because Rangers just about scored so I better wrap this up.

Flyers to tough for Pens says Ian

Since the end of the hockey season, the school year has flown by. With only a few weeks left of school, the school work is adding up as final exams begin to near. Along with the daily regiments of class, the boys have been in the gym daily with our lift groups following Dave's workout plan. Even though I've seen each lift group in the gym, I have to say the 2:00 lift group, led by Alex Perkins has been most impressive. The raquetball matches have been pretty competitive each day after our lifts, as its a constant battle between our group. Cory Melkert hasn't made an appearance in the court recently, after announcing his retirement several weeks ago after the recent rule changes. Along with lift groups, raquetball, and schoolwork, its playoff time. The past few days I've been glued to the TV watching the games with the boys, especially Flyers. As every hockey player and fan knows, everything changes when its playoff time. Hopefully the Flyers can pull it off this year, but they'll have to send Crosby home first.

Nunner on Plasma windows....whatever that is.........

We are in the transitional part of the year, hockey is over and team activities are starting up.  Soon we will be going to the gym hard and really preparing for next year.  You get the real sense players are a bit lost without the season.
While hockey is in a transitional period, school is in an unrelenting full swing.  I just presented my physics senior seminar on Plasma Windows.  I might have procrastinated too long, which led me to stay up all night on 5-hour energy drinks to put together the final project.  I think the presentation went well despite the deprivation of sleep.  And my team found a way to win the hockey team basketball tournament that same day.
Banquet is in a week from today, it’s a fun day, but also a sad day to see the seniors moving forward.  It makes me think of next year; I’m dreading next year’s senior banquet.

Benny on break

Just got back from spring break, it was nice to get in the sun and not have to be in classrooms for a week. Back at school now trying to get it together as the year comes to an end. The weather has been so nice no one seems to want to go to class, can’t wait to get out to the golf course and start the season.  March madness has also caught a lot of my attention since I have been back, love the heart and finishes. On that note, till next time.

Captain Mueller staying up on school work

It good to be back from spring break to see that the weather here is nice as well (not quite as nice as Southern Florida) but nice. Tomorrow we will be playing volleyball with guys on the team and that should be fun. It’s been good to see all the boys and catching up, and also keeping up on school work with the weather like this is tough, but I am getting it done. Also I can't wait to watch the NHL Playoffs unfortunately the Islanders won’t be participating. We will see.

'Fredo gives his take on volleyball

Since the season has been over the days seem to go by much slowing without hockey in the picture.  But it now gives me time to just settle in and get on top of my school work and to get good grades.  We just got back from spring break and after the beautiful weather in Florida where I just was, I come back to some beautiful weather here in Fredonia.  So I still get to keep my tan going.  The team has gotten together this weak and we have been having some team bonding time playing some activities such as kickball, street hockey, and basketball.  The next activity is volleyball and I am going to dominate since I am so nasty at it!!

Perks banking on character and toughness to fill void

Just finishing up our first full week back here after spring break. Hockey is over and now moving into the training phase of the year where we will begin to prepare for next year’s season. Although this year’s season didn't carry on as long as we would have liked, I feel like we made huge progress as a team and as individuals. Looking at the guys who are coming off breakout freshman seasons and the rest of our upper class group I feel like we have the personnel to make some noise next year. Saying that, seniors like Bryan Ross, Billy Sanborn, Chris Labella, and last but certainly not least coach Kody "the Grinch" Van Rentergem are irreplaceable members of the team, both on and off the ice, and will be dearly missed. There are big shoes to fill for the boys next year, and I know we have the character in our room for the job.

All the best,
Rod Perkins
