"a little break for Christmas"

Hello Fredonia hockey fans!

Brandon Spognardi here with another blog post! It has been a really busy week preparing for finals and getting some last minute work done before the end of the semester. With a blink of an eye, I cannot believe the first half is coming to an end already. It feels like it was yesterday I was walking into Steele Hall being welcomed by 28 new faces. Now, they are 28 new great friends and teammates.

It is always nice to have a little break for Christmas, but I still cannot wait to get back and get the 2nd half of the season started. But for now, its just finals and getting ready to travel back home. That’s all I have for today, good luck on finals everyone and have a Merry Christmas!!

We need to have a short memory.....

Hello everybody, this is Jacob Haynes checking in for my fourth blog post of the season. We had a tough loss to #1 Oswego State last night and we all feel that we should've came away with the win last night. We need to have a short memory now as we have a big game tomorrow night vs. Cortland in our last game before Winter Break. I know all of the boys will be up for it and we will play a great game tomorrow night.

Until next time,

Everyone is excited for the weekend

We have a big weekend coming up with 4 huge points up for grabs. All the Christmas food we are going to eat will taste a lot better knowing we left everything we have in the tank these last two games before our break.

Everyone is excited for the weekend and kinda getting a little break before finals starts on Monday, the boys are putting in hours in the library trying to get ready for their final exams over the next week including myself. All of us need this break to go home to family and friends before we come back and finish of the season real strong with an even better second half.

Happy holidays~ Anton Rosén

These are the games we live for...

Hey hockey fans #7 Todd Schauss here on a busy Wednesday!

The boys are coming off a solid weekend picking up 2 of 4 points in a huge win over Brockport in a special teams battle. With momentum the boys keep building and moving forward this week on the ice in preparation for #1 Oswego Friday and Cortland Saturday. These are the games we live for, the games we dreamed of playing as kids; going up against the best of the best with an opportunity to show the hockey World what Fred hockey is all about!

Along with all the hard work on the ice, the fellas are grinding away at our studies with a huge week of exams next week. I know as much as the boys love being here in Fred town it is time for much needed family time along with a break from the books.

Looking forward to a great weekend and Christmas break!
Until next time!

Congrats to Dunner on his first college goal.....

#16 Dunner here taking control of the blog today.

Coming off a big win Saturday night vs. a good Brockport team. With only two games left before we hit finals week and Christmas break all hands are on board and taking it one game at a time. With Oswego coming in here on Friday night, we are in for a great week of practice to get ready for them. I really think we have something special in this locker room.

On another note it was good to see my suitemate Thomas Dunn (no Relation) back from injury and in the line up this weekend. With a week or so left till break, time to take it one day at a time and focus on the task at hand. I'd like to wish all my friends and family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Also Happy Hanukkah to Riv and Blitzy!

Tha'ts all for now happy holidays!

A great week of practice starts today

Number one seed in the country comes into Steele Hall Friday night and the boys are pumped about it. We get a chance to send a message to the entire league about who we are. Defeating Brockport on Saturday was a great team win, and is clear proof that Fredonia is a real threat. A great week of practice starts today and the boys are looking to get after it. - Tommy

"gritty and hard-nosed penalty killing"

Good Afternoon Blue Devil Fans, # 4, Jon Carlson back on the blog.

Last night the Blue Devils took down the Brockport Golden Eagles in a 6-5 thriller that held excitement right up to the final buzzer. After receiving a questionable 5 minute major penalty late in the game the Blue Devils were able to hold off the Golden Eagles with some gritty and hard-nosed penalty killing to lock down a huge "W". The Blue Devils currently sit tied for second in the SUNYAC with Buff State with 9 points.

In other news the fall semester is wrapping up with this being the last full week of classes before exams and Christmas break. As this is my last blog before the break I would like to wish a happy and safe holiday to everyone. Signing off, Jon Carlson #4.

School is really busy now.....

Hello everyone,

Junior, Oskar Gerhardson signing in for a blog post here on Saturday morning. Christmas is around the corner and I speak for everyone when I say that the break can´t come faster. School is really busy now with the last assignments and exams before we get to go home and recharge the batteries. But first we have three important games to take care of.

Yesterday did not go as we had hoped down in Geneseo. The game ended 3-0, and even though the results was not what we wanted there was a lot of positives to take out of a game like the one yesterday. We played a very well organized and skilled Geneseo that are probably one of the best teams in the country right now. The game gave us some feedback on what we need to improve to get to where we want to be and luckily we have a new chance tonight to take a step in that direction when Brockport comes to Steele hall. Hope we will see you there !

" the boys are hungry"

Hello everyone!

The first semester is dwindling down to the end here and finals are around the corner. It feels like time is just flying by. The boys have a couple of big SUNYAC weekends left before Christmas break and let me tell you, the boys are hungry. Currently sitting in second place, happy but not satisfied, there is always room for improvement. A few wins in these last two weeks in the first half would be a huge confidence boost for the boys to kick us into high gear for the second half. Excited about the near future and anxious to see what the boys can do with the opportunity at hand.

Enjoy the upcoming holidays and give your loved ones a big hug.

It's been one of the best teams I have had the pleasure to be apart of......

Hey everyone Luke Rivera here! Hope everyone had a resting and memorable Thanksgiving (break)! We all got to enjoy a nice meal and see family and friends but we were right back to work the next day (Friday). We all came back and worked really hard Friday and two-a-days on Saturday and it looks like it is really paying off. The sacrifices we make to get better and to play this sport are crucial and 100% worth it in the end. We have a big weekend approaching here. We play a ranked team Geneseo at their rink then we have Brockport at Steele Hall. Nothing better than a Saturday night home game. I couldn't be more confident going into these games and the rest of the season with the group of guys we have going to battle for each other. It's been one of the best teams I have had the pleasure to be apart of. Can't wait to get these 4 points. And on more importantly news... it is Peppermint Mocha Latte season now so I'm sure you will spot a 6 foot 5 long, ungroomed haired man with a beard dragging on the floor walking through Starbucks quite often. He answers to "Bogs".

Take care.

"just enough of a rest to recharge the batteries"

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed it with friends and family. Back in Syracuse we got a little more than a foot of snow so that was pretty exciting. The break was just enough of a rest to recharge the batteries but we were all excited to come back Friday for practice and our quest for a SUNYAC title.

There's no slowing down in our SUNYAC schedule, this weekend we face off against Geneseo and Brockport. Being a returning player, I can speak for all of us when I say we want revenge on both those teams and we're not going to let these games slip away from us. Coming off a 1-1 weekend against Morrisville before the break, these upcoming games are just as crucial as any other SUNYAC game.

We're at the point of the semester when there's two week of classes left, and then finals week. Luckily for me, I've been balancing out all the papers I have to write so I'm about halfway done! Hope everyone has a great week!

We've got a great group of guys that will go to battle for one another every night...

Hello blog world!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. It was nice to visit the homeland for a few days and spend some down time with the family. Very much worth the 10 hours of driving one way.

Now that we are back, it's back to business and it was nice to see everyone on the same page with two great days of practices. This is crucial because these next two weeks are the most important games of the season.

We've got a great group of guys that will go to battle for one another every night. This being said there is no reason we can't achieve great things this year and it starts with finishing off the first have strong before Christmas break.

I want to wish everyone best of luck in the remainder of the semester and come support your Blue Devils!

HAPPY SATURDAY

Hello everyone this is Mackenzie McAvoy tuning into today's portion of the blog. Just want to start off saying it feels good to be back on the ice with the boys and getting back after it! So far we had a great start to the season but we're hungry for more and we can see that every day we're on the ice as all the boys are focused in on the next two weeks as they are the biggest of the season so far.

Since I am Canadian I celebrated Thanksgiving in October so yes, our Thanksgiving consist of the same foods and we eat turkey as well in Thanksgiving! But I want to wish all my American friends and family a happy Thanksgiving and I hope everyone enjoyed a well deserved break!

As for myself I enjoyed the couple days off to recharge and get back after it. It's great to be back and I am focusing in on these next two weeks as we look to push for playoffs more and more each day!
Anyways I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing break! Until next time,

Happy Thanksgiving hockey fans,

Happy Thanksgiving hockey fans,

Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe holiday that was very filling and relaxing, cause I know mine was!!

It's been a great start to the season as this semester begins to wind down. This time of year is always such a busy time with finals right around the corner, so it is important to take care of business on and off the ice.

With no games this weekend, we set our sights onto next weekends match ups with Geneseo and Brockport. These are two good teams that we believe we're are going to beat. Points cannot be left on the table in this critical time in the season. We want all the fans out there to embrace the underdog with us and march forward and we continue our SUNYAC push!!

Hope everyone has a good rest of the the weekend,

P.S. My foot is healing nicely.....

Good Morning Blue Devil Hockey Fans,

Max Blitz, freshman, defenseman, back on the blog. The boys have been rolling lately. We are currently in 2 nd place in the SUNYAC. This past weekend we took it to our rivals from upnorth, the Potsdam Bears. For our second game of the weekend, we hosted Plattsburgh and, unfortunately, we lost 4-2. Luckily we see them again in February and we will definitely beatthem next time around.

We have a home and home series with Morrisville this weekend so we're looking to come out with a sweep to make sure they can’t move ahead of us in the standings.

On a lighter note, were all gearing up, for the much needed, holiday break. I can’t wait to see my family. The last time we were all together was back in May. I hope you all have great
Thanksgiving and hope to see you all back at Steele Hall at the beginning of December for our first games back.

P.S. My foot is healing nicely hope to be skating after the holiday break!

"we were also able to raise over $9,000 to charity" in Stroke Awareness Game

Hello Again! Gavin Nickerson here on the blog. Another great week in the books for the boys as we had our stroke awareness game on Friday vs. Potsdam. Not only were we able to get the victory 4-1, we were also able to raise over $9,000 to charity. Another huge shout out goes to Luke Rivera for putting all the pieces to the puzzle together to make this event as successful as possible.

After a tough second game against Plattsburgh on Saturday. The guys are ready to bounce back in a huge home-and-home series with Morrisville this coming weekend. It's our last weekend before break, and we're ready to head home for Thanksgiving with 4 points in our pocket.

Till next time,

Holyfield was a great example of what it takes to be a champion in the ring and a great person outside of it.

Mike Freeman here coming at you with another blog!

Last night, I watched an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary about Evander Holyfield and his prominence in boxing through the late 1980's and entire 1990's. The film centered around the competitive rivalry and highly anticipated delay to the fights between Holyfield and Mike Tyson.

Much like the rest of the sports conscious world, the best thing I knew Holyfield for was getting part of his ear bitten off by Tyson. I had no idea what kind of competitor and human being he was.

Holyfield had a tough upbringing in urban Atlanta.  He was basically a no-one in boxing until he wasn't. Towards the end of the 80's, Holyfield began to gain a reputation as someone who could potentially knock off undisputed heavyweight champ, Mike Tyson.  What was incredible to me was Holyfield was a cruiser weight and had to move up an entire weight class to fight Tyson. The fight everyone wanted to see wouldn't take place for years to come though.

Mike Tyson ran into legal troubles, so Holyfield vs. Tyson had to be delayed for years. By the time the fight was set to take place, Holyfield was considered by many to be washed up and nearly done with the sport, while Tyson was considered to be in his prime.  But Holyfield shocked the world and upset Tyson handily.

What's more important than his success is how Holyfield carried himself as a person. It is so common in boxing for superstars to be egomaniacs, prone to outbursts and irrational behavior. Holyfield was the antithesis of this. He was calm, respectful, and dedicated, all while being an absolute savage in the ring. To me, Holyfield was a great example of what it takes to be a champion in the ring and a great person outside of it.

Good Morning Fredonia Hockey Fans!

Shout out to Rivera for putting together something so awesome, and what a win for the boys! It was really a great time and got so much love and support.

Today we woke up and reviewed video and now we are in preparation to come out hard against Plattsburg. It should be a battle and everyone is really exciting to get it going. Once that puck drops, it will be an all on war.

Well that’s all for today, we have to get ready to go! Go Blue Devils!

Big shoutout to Luke Rivera who has put in countless hours into making this night a possibility and event wouldn't have happened without him. We continue to have the mindset of an underdog....

It was a big weekend for the boys taking three out of four points against Buffalo State! We continue to have the mindset of an underdog and that has formed to be our Identity. The boys are working hard this week as we have two conference games this weekend.
I’ve learned that it is crucial to take care of my body, getting enough sleep and eating well. Each week is a grind, taking a lot of energy out, so it is important to stay hydrated and eating properly. Very excited that we get to host a game raising awareness for Strokes Friday night. The team is looking great and it should be a great weekend.

"The boys are firing on all cylinders"

Hey there Hockey Fans!
#7 Todd Schauss coming at ya early this Monday morning of a what will turn out to be a great week!

The boys are firing on all cylinders as we come off a huge weekend earning 3 out of 4 points against our rivals down the street Buffalo State. Opening up at their place Friday evening your Blue Devils brought home a hard fought two points to open up the SUNYAC play. Saturday night we hosted the Bengals and we knew they were going to come out with some extra fire and grit. The boys struck first and held our ground for a majority of the game. Goaltender Eric Bogart really stood on his head the entire weekend only giving up 3 goals in the two contests. Ties are never fun but taking 3 out of the 4 points really puts us Blue Devils in good shape in the SUNYAC standings to start the year.

This weekend we are hosting the Potsdam Bears for the Stroke Awareness game which will be such a great cause to be apart of. After battling for 60 minutes on Friday we come right back to Steele Hall Saturday at 4 PM to battle one of the top teams in the country, Plattsburgh. The boys are gearing up this week in practice for another two wars to come this weekend and we could not be more psyched to defend our home base!

Well that's all I have for ya folks!

Until next time, Todd Schauss #7

"able to take 3 of 4 points against Buff St"

Hello Everyone,

Freshman forward Jacob Haynes here for my second blog post of the year. This weekend was a good weekend for the team as we were able to take 3 of 4 points against Buff St. After the big win Friday night we were able to follow it up with a hard fought tie 1-1 in a great hockey game. This was a pivotal opening weekend of the SUNYAC and has given us momentum going into next weekend against Potsdam which is also Stroke Awareness Night as well as Plattsburgh on Saturday. The boys are ready to put in a good week of practice to get ready to protect Steele Hall next weekend.

Until Next Time,

G'day folks!

Had a tough start to the season but we'll take it as a learning experience and move on to buff state this Friday and pick up the first points available in SUNYAC play! Classes are still buzzing right along, doing my best to keep up with it all, going fine so far. I think with October being over pumpkin spiced season is over, I know Rivs is crying and wearing a black arm band as a symbol of his mourning, need to toughen that boy up.

With one game under our belts we know what we need to work on and how to get better this week and the rest of the season. Now we are ready to battle at practice

Happy Halloween everyone!

We finally had our home opener Friday and even though it didn't go exactly how we hoped, we got to see what we need to work on and what we need to do to do better next time. It was also a day where we can learn as a team to battle through adversity together. Now we are ready to battle at practice for the week and move on to get ready for Buffalo State because we are going to take it to them and leave nothing behind. Play like there's no tomorrow. So get ready to see a great battle between the lakes and watch Fredonia come out with the 4 points. Go Blue Devils!

"we have some unfinished business here and it all starts tonight at Steele Hall."

Hey Hockey Fans!
The day is finally here! Our first game of the year tonight at 7pm at Steele Hall as we face off against Utica. I know all the boys are so excited for this game and have been working hard preparing for it for months. The returning guys have been waiting for this day since last February and the freshman have been waiting for it since they committed to play here at Fredonia.

The days of Advanced Conditioning, practice skates, morning/afternoon workouts, regular practices, and other team activities have prepared us well for this day. A chance to prove what we can do on the ice against a competitive Utica team is a chance we're all extremely excited about. Our Blue/White scrimmage last week showed a lot of potential we have, to go out and be a contender for a SUNYAC title. Make sure you all come out at 7pm and fill the stands for some exciting hockey action!
Last weekend was Alumni Weekend here at Fredonia. It was great talking to the former hockey players who played here years ago and find out what has changed here, and what has stayed the same. We've talked to many guys who have had great success here at Fredonia, and it has lead them to great success in their careers. I truly enjoyed watching their alumni game, seeing how much fun they all had with one another chirping each other like they have never left. It made me realize that my teammates will always be like family to me and I'm hoping to continue to have a strong connection with all of the boys once it's all said and done.

But we have some unfinished business here and it all starts tonight at Steele Hall.
See you there,
Harps#30

"battle on Friday night, when we defend Steel Hall "

Hello blog World,

Frankie Hart here once again! Well it's that time a year, one more up tempo practice today that will lead us into the best time of year! Our home opener versus Utica. We have been preparing for this game since our final game last season. There is no better time to start a new chapter in Fredonia hockey then the first game of the season. We have had two great week of practices that have prepared us for battle on Friday night, when we defend Steel Hall.

On a school note, we are a little past the half way mark of the semester. It is absolutely flying by. With the official start of games this Friday I don't see it slowing down either.

I wish everyone a great weekend, and if you can. Come support your boys in blue this Friday at 7pm

Jamie Young here with 2016-2017's first game-week Tuesday blog post!! Fresh off the ice after a morning skills skate with Coach Mike it feels like Christmas is almost here.

The boys had a great first week of practice - the veterans were savvy, the rookies learned what it meant to go through a college practice, and everyone was flat out flying.

We're a team with a ton of speed and grit, so we need each and every fan to get out to the game Friday and get gritty with us. Be in those stands, loud as ever, cheering on the boys as the Pioneers come to town.

Whatever happens Friday night, next Friday night, or the rest of the season; the guys here in the locker room have established a family and we would love for all of you to be apart of our family for the journey ahead of us!!

4 days till blast off.

Let's go to work,

"sorry USA but you lost that one..."

Hey again, junior Oskar Gerhardson signing in. After a good first week of practice the boys got to play a scrimmage on Saturday. Even though we had a long and tough week, the game tempo was pretty high and the guys looked good out there. For myself, an ankle injury has been keeping me off the ice for too long but I am making good progress and hopefully I will be ready to battle for a spot for the season opener on Friday.

School is moving along well, there is a lot to do and currently I am sitting in the library with a few of the guys on the team and we are hammering out homework like it´s nobody´s business.

For Fall Break I also got a chance to experience the Niagara falls form the Canadian side for the first time which was way better than the American side, sorry USA but you lost that one...

Until next time,

"the stories started flying and the laughs started flowing"

Hello all,

Senior, Forward, Marcus Ortiz here for this latest installment of the Fredonia Ice Hockey Blog. After an intense and draining week of practice, the boys got to enjoy the night last night with some of our alumni from the original year. As the stories started flying and the laughs started flowing it was at that moment when we realized just how big of a family we are involved in here. It is a proud time to be a Blue Devil, and after a summer of intense hard-work and training I am ready to put some pucks in Utica's net Friday night as I know the rest of the boys are!

I am excited to see my family and the rest of the families that will be in town for this game on Friday, sometimes we think our parents come more so to see and hang out with the other parents more than to see us (joking of course). School is getting tougher right about this time so the boys are pushing to get ahead in work to take the pressure off. Well I hope to see everyone on Friday night!

Stay tuned!

Till next time,

GAME WEEK

Hey everyone,

Hunts checking back in for another blog. Today we played the Blue and White game along with meeting some of the alumni this weekend. It's special to see everyone who comes back for the weekend, there are always a couple good stories thrown around.

Looking forward to Monday as we enter our first GAME WEEK. Everyone has worked tremendously hard and I'm proud of the boys for the effort they have put forth this far, and now it's time for results. Utica is a respectable team, and playing at home is something I've been looking forward too. A day of rest and its back at it, gearing up for our home opener.

"insane schedule of a student-athlete"....

What are Sunday's for? After a solid week of practice and a nice scrimmage to end the week, it's nice to hang loose. Football is the sport of choice on a Sunday and although Big Ben is out this weekend, I'll still be cheering on my Pittsburgh boys against the Pats. Sundays are great because nothing is expected, and sometimes with the insane schedule of a student-athlete, doing nothing can be the best for you. Back to the grind tomorrow,

The beauty of our team is that nobody feels cemented in their spot......

The Blue/White game is here!

Mike Freeman here with another blog!

This Saturday is the annual Fredonia Hockey Blue/White game and the boys and myself couldn’t be more excited.  Last year as a freshman, I couldn’t wait to pull on the Fredonia sweater for the first time. Now, as a sophomore, the excitement definitely hasn’t faded, but has multiplied.  Now that I know the ins and outs of being a Blue Devil, I am ready to get back to work and have the season get underway. It feels like years since I’ve had to opportunity to wear the Blue Devils’ sweater, so I’m pumped to get to wear it in a real game situation this Saturday.

The Blue/White game is a perfect tune up because of how professionally it is run. There are actual referees that officiate the game and full 20 minute stop-time periods. Although it is an intrasquad scrimmage, everybody treats is as if it were a real game that counts in the standings. It is, after all, the last chance you have to audition for your spot on the team, and everybody knows that.  The beauty of our team is that nobody feels cemented in their spot. We all feel that there is loads of healthy competition in our dressing room, and that really pushes the guys to be the best they can be. Because if they’re not, somebody is going to step right in and steal their job. We are all very excited to see what this years Blue/White game has in store.

See you next time,
Mike Freeman

Blue and White scrimmage coming up....

Hey Blue Devil fans,

Ben Casale here checking in for my first blog since the hockey season has officially started. Coaches stepped on the ice Monday and practices have been extremely fast and intense. The team is looking good as we have a lot of speed upfront. We have our big Blue and White scrimmage coming up on Saturday so come out and support your Blue Devils!

I am really looking forward to getting the year going starting against Utica next week. It should be a great game as we look to protect Steele Hall!

Anyways I have to start getting ready for practice.

'til next time Blue Devil fans

Can't wait for it to be 3pm so we can go out in the ice again and get a step closer.....

Yesterday coaches finally stepped on the ice with us, and the battle of winning our season opener against Utica is getting closer. I think the wait has been to long for all of us, and we all a counting down the days on the calendar and hoping it will say, 28th of October and Utica show up for a battle.

We just came of a well deserved Fall Break and prepared for this upcoming week, and you could really see the intensity level out on the ice yesterday. Can't wait for it to be 3pm so we can go out in the ice again and get a step closer.

Official team practice begins today ......

Things are heating up here in Fredonia. Official team practice begins today and we are only 11 days away from our first game against Utica. The excitement and energy amongst the guys is building each day! We have been anxiously waiting for this day since we arrived on campus in mid August.

Currently, I am sidelined with a collar bone fracture. Fortunately, I have been able to skate every day on my own and am very much looking forward to being officially cleared by the Doctor, hopefully very soon!

This might be the year that the Bills make the playoffs.....?

Hello everyone,

Austin Bianchi here checking in from Buffalo, New York. It was nice to get a little break here halfway through the semester and that a lot of kids got the chance to go home and spend some time with their families before we get the season rolling. As the weather gets colder it is starting to feel more and more like hockey season. In other news the Buffalo Bills look to win their fourth game in a row against Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers. I say this every year, but this might be the year they finally make the playoffs.

Until next time,
Austin Bianchi

I broke my leg......

Hey Fredonia hockey fans,

Freshman Max Blitz singing back on to the blog for my second time this year. It’s crazy to
believe that we are already 6 weeks into the first semester. College really does fly by.

Things have been going very well in the classroom, better than I had expected for my first semester back in. Unfortunately, I am going to be sidelined for about 6-8 weeks and will miss the first couple games this season.

I broke my leg and dislocated my ankle the last captains practice this year. I had to undergo surgery to re-set my ankle and they also put a plate in the as well.  The last week has been tough but I have had tremendous amount of help from my teammates and they have made this whole situation a lot easier on me.

I am making a speedy recovery to get back on the ice with the boys and I can’t wait to step onto the ice for my first game at Steele Hall over Thanksgiving weekend. The quest for the SUNYAC championship starts in 19 days against Utica.....hope to see you there Blue Devil fans.

Captain skates are finally over and the real work begins......

Hey guys,
Kyle Jelinski here, today we are on Fall Break and being from Edmonton, I don't get the luxury of going home so I am sticking around with a few of the boys that are also in my position.  The town is pretty quiet but I'm sure we will find something to do. Also I am really looking forward to Monday because that's when captain skates are finally over and the real work begins. Got a lot of work to do before Utica but it's an exciting time of year and I'm more then certain we will be ready.
Until next time

The foot is on the pedal.....

Hey everyone!

Brandon Spognardi here riding shotgun in Bogart’s 'ol blog mobile. These past weeks, the boys have been really working hard getting better on and off the ice. Everyone is putting in work getting ready for Utica in only 17 days! The boys are getting really pumped for the 28th and we wish it would come sooner. The foot is on the pedal and the GILA is moving full throttle.

Last weekend, I got a chance to take the day off and spend time in Niagara Falls for the first time. It was quite an experience and really a sight to see. There were rumors from the guys that the Canadian side was better, so I might have to check that out see for myself sometime. Overall, it was a really neat trip.

Well, that’s all for this week’s blog post. Only 17 days till Utica and the engine is roaring! Go Blue Devils!

'harder hitting, faster skating'.......

Hey everyone! Gavin Nickerson here,

Its a great time of the year. It's starting to get cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and hockey season is finally upon us. The boys have been grinding hard the last couple weeks in preparation for Utica on the 28th. Every day we have been improving; harder hitting, faster skating, and more intense attitudes have been showing up every single day at practice. It's also the start of fall break, a lot of the guys are going home for a couple days, but some of us are staying in town to relax and get a few extra skates in over the break including myself. It will be nice to get a couple days off from our school work to clear our minds and really focus as the season is rapidly approaching us.

Till next time,
-Gav

You can feel the energy already in practice.....

Hey hockey fans! Back at it with #7 Todd Schauss this week!

I hope ya'll are getting as juiced up as the boys are for the home opener on the 28th of October! With the opener right around the corner the boys have been grinding on and off the ice extra hard this past couple of weeks. You can feel the energy already in practice. We are really starting to amp it up in practices with more intensity and physicality. The chemistry is making its way through the locker room and guys are learning who they work with. I myself cannot wait to see what the coaches have in store for us for the first real practice. Everyday we are moving forward pushing to reach our ultimate goal to win a SUNYAC championship. That's all I have for you toady!!

Thanks again

I couldn't be more pumped up.....

Hey everybody,

This is freshman forward Jacob Haynes here for my first ever blog post. College so far is been a great experience, coming in I was nervous about how I was going to adjust to college after taking two years off of school. Former and now again current teammates Freeman, Jelinski and the upperclassmen on the team couldn't have done a better job getting us freshman into the swing of things quickly here at Fredonia and within the first week I felt comfortable and that I was home.

Training camp started this week and the team is looking better and better everyday. Home opener against Utica is only 22 days and I couldn't be more pumped up about it.

That's all for now,

Jacob Haynes

Happy Birthday Ryan Dunn!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello again everyone!

Freshman forward Ryan Dunn checking on my second blog post of the year. Today is also my 21st birthday! Aside from that the year is going awesome to date. Sophomores Jonny Carlson, Bobby Polacheck and I actually took home the team golf tournament championship over the weekend with a score of -9. It was a fun day and good to get out on the links before the weather is to cold and they shut down for the winter. On a little bit of a more sad note the Patriots lost their first home game at Gillette Stadium since 2008 and of course it was to the Bills. Most of the time with bad news comes good news  and the good news here is that Tom Brady is back and will be better than ever for the remainder of the year. So I guess this is good luck to the rest of the NFL for the next 12 weeks.

On another note October 28th is getting closer and closer. There isn’t a better family to come into than here at Fredonia. All the boys have been helping the freshman grow into more confident players over the past month and a half. With the group of guys we have, everyone can tell this is going to be a special and memorable year. With day two of training camp under our belt, everyone is looking good and ready to go. There are just 23 days until we step on the ice at Steele Hall to take on Utica. I think its safe to say that we are going to put in the work the next 23 day and be ready to protect Steele Hall!

Thats all for now.

Beep Test this morning....

Good morning Fredonia, sophmore, defenseman Jon Carlson here for my second blog of the season. The team was up and at it this morning as we had our "beep" test which tests our off ice conditioning. The test requires us players to perform a 20 meter shuttle run that must be completed at various times which increase in speed as the levels go up.

In other news, the team has just wrapped up our Advanced Conditioning class which means we're now on the ice Monday thru Friday from 3-6pm. With only a few weeks until the season begins, the team is getting anxious and excited to finally strap on our pads for real and take on talented Utica College happening here at Steele hall October 28th.

As always, thank you for tuning in and we look forward to seeing you guys October 28th at Steele hall.

Enjoy the rest of your day,

Training camp starts tomorrow......

I Couldn't be more excited, the season is right around the corner! The boys are looking good, and were all amped up. Training camp starts tomorrow, and its really setting in that college hockey has arrived. School is going well, spend most of my Sundays in the library cranking out homework. Currently studying for an exam tomorrow, so I have to get back to studying!

All the best - Tommy DeFelice

To say I’m excited is an understatement.....

Hey coach, here’s my blog for tomorrow.

Hey everyone! Freshman forward Thomas Dunn here for my second blog post of the year. So far I’m really enjoying everything that Fredonia has to offer. All of my classes have been interesting, even though it took a bit getting used to the work load of five classes after being out playing junior hockey for the past three years. On the ice, things have been going great. The tempo, pace, and intensity have really been picking up week by week, especially in our scrimmages.

This upcoming Monday officially starts our training camp and officially starts my college hockey career. To say I’m excited is an understatement, I can’t wait to get after it with the guys and see what this team can do. I think there’s a real special group in this locker room that is capable of anything we put our minds to. I know all the boys are counting down the days until we take on Utica for our opener.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Till next time,
Thomas Dunn

Bognasty behind the wheel of the ol blog-mobile!

Ding ding ding! I'm back!

Sophomore, goaltender, Bognasty behind the wheel of the ol blog-mobile! Excited to be back that's for sure. I'm even more excited about this beautiful fall weather, I am Canadian so I'm not built for the heat of summer! Love the festivities that come with fall, and we're one step closer to the season! Boys are hungry for the grind, I'm starving, Rivera hasn't eaten in 2 weeks(he's a gluten), we need it.

Classes are going great(I think), can't decide what I'm going to wear for Halloween though. For the time being I'm sitting here listening to Huntsy try to stay inside the lines of his coloring book.

Anyways  I've put together a little dance for in liu of getting a costume https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v4IC7qaNr7I

I think we can do something special......

Hey Everyone!
The weeks are starting to just blend together with how fast everything is going. The season takes off on Monday and the boys are ready to hit the ice in full stride. We have a very motivated group of guys this year and if we keep getting after it like we have been, I think we can do something special.

I am currently watching my roommate Michael Freeman play some good Rush tunes on his drum kit with his newly added snare. Never a dull moment around here. I am looking forward to watching some football this weekend and hopefully the Broncos can keep the undefeated streak going. The Bills fans around here were pretty stoked with the big win last week, I wouldn't mind seeing them take the Pats down this weekend.

That's all for me, Enjoy your week and we'll chat again soon!

I can tell our team has formed really nicely.....

Riv here back on the blog again...
As many of you know our season is coming up very quickly and we'll be going to battle against Utica in Steele Hall on October 28th before we know it. We as a team have been working extremely hard on and off the ice. We are getting better everyday and most of the time we are having fun doing it. Just by watching the guys work on the ice I can tell our team has formed really nicely and there is so much more room to improve so I can only imagine what we'll look like come game day. With fall break only two weeks away as well, the studies have been increasing more and more. So after work outs and skates its off to the library. Not only have the classrooms been busy but as most of you have heard, the process of the Stroke Awareness game that's occurring on November 11th in Steele Hall vs our big time rival SUNY Potsdam has also put some hours into my schedule. With a lot of help from the guys and Coach Meredith it is coming together really nicely as well. So far this year has been full of good times, laughs, and a lot of memories and its only been a month into school. We have a great group of guys on the squad this year and I'm looking forward to battling with them on the ice and enjoying life with them off.

Until next time bloggers.

Fredonia Hockey Golf Tournament

Hey Everyone!
Junior Nick Harper here checking in for my second blog post of the year! Things are starting to heat up here at Fredonia such as schoolwork, workouts, and our skates. Our  skates have been filled with intensity and guys are getting prepared for the upcoming season. I'm looking forward to some nice fall weather coming in and not having to change three shirts a day.

This past week has been such a hard week in the sports world. Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez sadly passed away in a boating accident a few days ago. Fernandez was only 24 years old, and was at the start of a potentially hall of fame career. I was able to watch the Marlins first game after he passed against the Mets Monday and saw the emotional pre-game ceremonies. During the game, every Marlins player and coach wore number 16 for Fernandez, with his name on the back to honor him. Being a Mets fan, when the Marlins lead off batter Dee Gordon hit a home run to start off the game, I was not disappointed. As Dee was running around the bases, you could see the tears in his eyes and stated crying as soon as he crossed home plate. Watching that game made me realize to just stop a minute, and enjoy everything I have and take nothing for granted because in a blink of an eye, it can all be taken away from you. Golf legend Arnold Palmer also passed away this past weekend. Looking back at his numbers and rounds, some of the scores he put up were truly amazing. He will for sure be missed in the golf community.

This weekend coming up we have our annual Fredonia Hockey golf tournament. It's a good way for the boys to have some fun, take a break from school, and go out and hit the links for a few hours. With a rough two past performances by me and my team, I think my new team of Jamie Young, Max Blitz, and Kyle Jelinski will be all wearing green jackets by Saturday afternoon. I'm excited to see the kind of talent we have coming out on the course this year, and I'm also excited to see that hysterical motion sophomore goalie Eric Bogart calls a golf swing.

That's all from me today, have a good rest of the week!

Classes are going great......

Hello blog world!

Frankie Hart here with his second blog post already! I'm glad time is flying by because that means hockey season will be here in no time. Everyone is dedicated and working hard to take care of things so we are more than ready to hit the ice in our home opener to take 2 points from Utica!

Advanced conditioning is coming to an end this Wednesday and it has been a very unique and fun experience for me compared to the past years of just getting a good workout in. I have learned a lot creating, organizing and running the workouts. The boys on the team have been a great help, couldn't of asked for a more organized and dedicated bunch, and of course coach for giving me an opportunity to grow in this aspect.

Classes are going great, a few papers due this week and I am currently working on an English paper due at the end of the week with my fellow classmate Ryan Dunn. The presidential debate is on in the background (TV only has 3 channels). Being Canadian I'm glad I don't have to pay much attention to what's going on there!

Well back to my paper, have a great week everyone!

I cannot believe how fast this semester is flying by......

Hello everybody, I hope everyone had a great weekend, and what better way to start off a week with the Bills winning the first of the season on Sunday. Even though I am from Canada I live so close to Buffalo I grew up a Bills fan, and how could I not, it’s the closest team to me.

With that being said I cannot believe how fast this semester is flying by. We literally have 3 weeks till coach steps on the ice with us and prepare for our first game against Utica. I am very excited to get the season going, as it is my last year, and want to make it a memorable one. Everyone is getting excited as the weeks and days tick down until the first day of practice starts. Its even starting to feel like hockey season, as summer is over, some of the leaves on the trees are changing colors, and fall is here. Also for my American friends who may not know but the Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up in about 2 weeks, as we always have ours early in October rather than here when it is in November, so I am looking forward to going back home for all the fixings.

Last but not least, I hope everyone is watching the world cup of hockey, as we see Canada in the final, and team Europe in which no one ever thought they would make it to the final, as they were underdogs the entire tournament. They obviously have a lot of skill, but it just goes to show that hard work pays off. Hopefully Canada approaches this game like every other and beats them in the gold medal game.

Anyways I hope everyone has a great start to the week, and remember everyone at work this week  “if you kill the joe, you better make some more” Terry Tate Office Linebacker. One of my favorite sayings from a video clip for a little humor to start off Monday.

Mackenzie McAvoy.

Bills Mafia is alive and well....

Hey there hockey fans,
Jamie Young here for Sunday's edition of the Fredonia hockey blog.

It's been a great first 5 weeks of school. The boys have settled in, classes are getting into the nitty-gritty of things, and all the fellas are working their tails off everyday getting ready for Utica. The Pioneers have no idea what they have in store for them on opening night!
Last Thursday I had the chance to get to my second ever Buffalo Bills game which was a great time. Even though it was not my 216 Dawg Pound, it was awesome to see a Thursday night game in a packed stadium. Bills Mafia is alive and well even though it feels like they will be battled by the Browns for that number one pick in the spring...

Well, time to get amped up for a day of football and studying, enjoy the weather while it's still sort of warm because we all know when the cold comes it's here to stay!!

Juggling classes, homework, workouts, and practice is a bit of a challenge in the beginning of the year.....

Hey again, we have now been back at school for a while and I feel like I'm starting to get the routines down again. Juggling classes, homework, workouts, and practice is a bit of a challenge in the beginning of the year.

Its been nice welcoming in the freshmen and getting to know them better this past month. Everybody is really excited that it is getting closer to the season. In a couple of weeks coach will get on the ice and in about a month we open the season at home. Can't wait for that first game, putting that jersey on a again and battle with my best friends.
Til next time....Oskar

Stroke Awareness game coming on November 11...

Hello all,
Senior forward Marcus Ortiz here for this newest installment of the Fredonia Hockey Blogspot! Today is a beautiful and humid Friday here in Fredonia, the boys have been working hard with our team training and we are all looking forward to today's inter-squad game. It will be a relatively quiet weekend here for the guys as many are just going to catch up on sleep and work and some going home or elsewhere.
On another note, teammate Luke Rivera with the help of myself and a few others have proudly established a special event to raise Stroke Awareness. It will be Friday November 11 against Potsdam at the Steele Hall Ice Arena here on campus. Much like Pink in the Rink, we will have special uniforms that day and will make every attempt at raising money for the cause! I encourage you all to support Luke who holds this cause very near and dear to his heart, and come out on that night and wear read and cheer us on to a big win for an even bigger cause. I am very excited for the season and this special event and hope we can gather up more outstanding support!

Till next time!!

"OLE ROCKY TOP YOU'LL ALWAYS BE, HOME SWEET HOME TO ME"

Howdy folks,
Hunter long checking in for another blog. I am currently on my way back home to Tennessee to see my family and to catch a Tennessee Volunteers football game as they play the Florida Gators this Saturday. I stayed up here in New York this summer and worked and had a great summer but I haven't seen my old man since last February and I am excited to see him as well as my family and friends. College Game Day will be in Knoxville this Saturday, if anyone has any good sign ideas let me know and I'll hold it up behind Kirk Herbstreit. My pop played shortstop at the University of Tennessee and was captain his junior and senior year. My leadership skills often come from him as he has given me advice when I've asked for it or needed more wise words as I try and lead a group of 30 men, so thanks pop for supporting me and being someone I can always talk too. My sister graduated from Tennessee as well so you can say I broke the family chain, But I was born to play hockey and couldn't be happier with the years I've spent at Fredonia and the memories and friendships i can take with me for years to come.

World Cup of Hockey

This time of year most hockey players around the world are tuned into the World Cup of hockey. The tournament takes place in Toronto showcasing the 8 best teams in the world as they battle it out for world supremacy. The one new element added compared to years past is the inclusion of team North America. This team being players only 23 and under, is just downright fun to watch. These kids are our age and on the verge of qualifying to the semis with a record of 2-1 in round robin play. Names like Eichel and Mcdavid stand out but the depth of talent and speed has been unmatched. Nathan Mackinnon who is only 21 has particularly stood out to me with his incredible hands, making goalies look silly. It's safe to say that team North America is the most exciting team in the tournament and I think the World Cup has put together something amazing with this team included in the mix

The Old Devil Lives On!

The Old Devil Lives On!

Mike Freeman here coming in hot with another blog.

Recently we were fortunate enough to have brand new carpeting put in our locker room featuring the most recent Fredonia Blue Devils logo, and boy did it come out beautifully. Nothing like crisp, fresh, new carpet to revamp our space. With the installation of the new carpet came the removal of the old carpet, including the vintage Blue Devil that has been the centerpiece of the room for many many years. Upon seeing the old logo uprooted from its home of so many years, I immediately began to wonder what was going to be done with it....

Once the end of the week arrived, it came to my attention that the logo, which at this point was now loose and in its individual pieces, was to be discarded if it was not removed from the room within the day. My roommates, Kyle Jelinski, Jimmy Morgan, Chris Paulin, and I knew then that we were going to take the logo and give it a new home.

This past Saturday, Kyle, Jim and I (with tons of help from Todd Schauss, and Max Blitz who had the important job of providing the tunes) decided to piece the puzzle that was the Old Devil carpet together and secure it to our basement wall, where it can live forever in Blue Devil history.

Needless to say, all the boys love the placement of the Devil. It’s pretty awesome how something as small as spending an hour or two gluing a logo to a wall can give the boys such a strong sense of Blue Devil pride. I look forward to having the Old Devil grace our wall for the remainder of my career and throughout future careers here at Fredonia.

Anton Rosén here, freshman goaltender from Sweden checking in....

Hello everyone,

Anton Rosén here, freshman goaltender from Sweden checking in for my first ever Fredonia Hockey blog post. The first couple of weeks have been difficult being away from home, but walking in to the locker room and having more then 30 guys treat you like family makes everything feel like home. It was a long process to go through before I could come here but I am so happy that I will spend my 4 years in college at Fredonia.

I thought living in the dorms wasn’t going to be that great, but I´m glad I was wrong, having a blast with my roommate Gavin Nickerson and the rest of the boys in IGOE 206.

A big thanks to all the upperclassmen’s, for taking such good care of us and being leaders for this team. A big thanks to our captain Hunter Long and also Frankie Hart for taking great care of me during the summer while I was here in Fredonia early.

I am super excited about the upcoming season and putting on the Blue Devils shirt, cant wait for the season to start and have a great year with this team. So far so good, starting to feel more like myself out on the ice and feel confidante about the challenges we have in front of us.

I have a 12-3 record against Deefer in NHL......

Hello everyone!

My name is Austin Bianchi and I'm a freshman forward, checking in for my first blog here at Fredonia. First I would like to start off by saying we are led by a couple of great captains in Hunter Long and Jamie Young. They have done a great job so far keeping everyone focused and organized as we prepare for a battle of a season. All of the upperclassmen were very welcoming and its safe to say, we have a great group of guys this year. So far school has been a lot of work and my days have been filled completely with things to do, which is probably why time it seems like times flying. We are already a month into classes this semester and it feels like I was moving into my dorm room the other day. A little fun fact over here at the dorms is that I have a 12-3 record against Deefer in NHL. He won't be too happy when he reads this.

Till next time, Austin Bianchi.

Blitzy on the blog....

Hey Blue Devil fans,

Freshman, defenseman, Max Blitz, signing on the hockey blog for the first time ever.

It’s been a great first couple weeks here at school. I finally got into a good routine which, I think, is the hardest part of being back in school full time after two years. The upperclassmen have been nothing but welcoming and very helpful to all of us rookies. All the freshman hockey players are living in Igoe dorm..... shout out to suite 208!  We have a pretty good time over there. Everyone looks out for each other whether it's someone forgets their brain at home in the morning on the way to class or I can’t find my Fred card. It’s never a dull moment over there. This past Saturday we had Senior Citizen Work Day; Eric Bogart, Luke Rivera, and I went to Grandma Marge’s house to help rake some leaves for a new drive way she is putting in. It’s always nice to give back to community. Hockey has been going great, the boys are really flyin’ out there on the ice and we are working hard in Advanced Conditioning on Mondays and Wednesdays.

42 days until the home opener against Utica on October 28th at 7pm in Steele Hall, hope to see you there.

See you later everyone,

Max Blitz (sorry don’t have my number yet:( )
