the only way out is to work together.......

Hey ya’ll

Its 9:35pm, we are back on the bus making our way to Fredonia. Not going to beat around the bush, the boys are at a low right now. Every class from seniors to freshman. We are in a hole, and a deep one at that. A hole that doesn’t have a direct route out, one that you get half way to the top and you lose your footing and fall back in, over, over, and over. We may not get out of this hole tomorrow, a week from now, or in 3 months. Eventually we will, but that’s only going to come from teamwork, staying tight as a group, and confidence within one another because that’s the only way we are getting out. As a young leader on this team I will be one of the guys at the bottom pushing and giving guys the lift we need to make our peak as a team, whether I see the outside of the hole first, I want to see this team succeed, and I do believe we can.

My Sunday is going to include church at 11am usually with Mr. Hart and it’s a regular Sunday thing we do. I don’t think paying a visit to the house of the good lord would be a bad thing right now. I pray for this group of boys every night and twice on Sunday and there are good things to come from this club once we make our peak. Keep your heads up.

Love ya boys,

Juice boy..............

Good morning folks,

It's Marcus Ortiz here on the blog again.

Today was another day of classes and our final practice in preparation for a must-win weekend in Morrisville. I had class this morning with Hunter Long and Daniel Martensson. My next class and final of the day is accounting with my two buds Hunter and Chris Eiserman. The class is definitely a mental strain on us but so far so good in that class. Then its off to the gym with friend and line mate Frank Hart, and preparations for practice and the game tomorrow begin there. After a good skate and feeling ready for the big tilt tomorrow night we play a quick game of juice boy. Juice boy is a game where you have to score to be out, last guy in has to buy juice for everyone playing. Unfortunately for our assistant coach Mike, he has the poorest record so far in juice boy, investing a lot of money in juice boxes. After a quick game of juice boy its off to stretch and ice bath with Damien K and Frank. As the boys sit in the ice bath we all joke about the weekend coming up or discuss the idiotic tendencies of some of the boys in the classroom. As the unwinding comes to an end we head to dinner with the rest of the guys, where the endless banter with Erik Moberg never ceases. Then its back to the dorm to do a little homework with Damien, Jamie Young, and Nick Harper as we watch the various NHL games on tonight. When all the games have concluded we all part ways and hit the hay for a good nights sleep and a long bus trip to follow with one thing on all of our minds, the must win affair we will be entangled in in less than 24 hours.

This is the final blog of my college career.....Brian Doust

This is the final blog of my college career.

Big weekend this weekend against Morrisville, needing to grab a few points to make a push for the playoffs this season. Have to give them credit as they seem to be better than previous years, so the boys will have to put a good effort in to get this done! After this weekend it will be the end of our long away game schedule with Pink the Rink the following weekend at home. Looking forward to a good super bowl this year with the Pats and Seahawks, two truly great teams. Routing for the Seahawks again this year, just like their uni's and Wilson at QB. Hope he can get back to back rings. Enjoy the Super Bowl, be safe as always and thanks for reading!

Mobey off to Stats class with Mac and Kurt..........

Hello Blue Devil fans,

Erik here again for another blog post. We are now entering the most important part of the season. Although we have not performed as we expected so far we still have a chance to get into playoffs, and as you all know anything can happen in a playoff. To all the fans out there stay tuned for updates for our upcoming road trip against Morrisville and I hope to see you all at our breast cancer game against Potsdam the following weekend. Unfortunately this will be it for today I have to go to my stats class, luckily for me though I have the pleasure spending 80 minutes of stats with Mac McAvoy and Kurt Gottschalk.

Enjoy your week folks.

a great bonding experience.........

Hello blog world, it is Frankie Hart here with my first entry of the new year!

Me and my housemates agree that J term flew by  compared to last year and the main reason for this is all the road trips we have had. It has been a great team bonding experience which has helped us grow closer as a hockey family. Are team as a whole has improved with every game we have played. There are always lessons and things to overcome. The SUNYAC conference is so close that every game is a season in it self. The standings, records can be throw out the door and the games are decided by who shows up too play on that night. Our team is the hardest working team I've been apart of and im proud to take the ice with the boys! It's now crunch time and time to be consistent with the hockey we can play. I have complete faith we can have a successful remainder of the season.

On a different note, the second week of classes of the spring semester are about to begin. My favorite class thus far has to be Elementary French 1, with captain Melky and a handful of others from the squad. I will be testing out my tutoring skills and excited to do so.

Big week of practices coming up that will lead us into a very important, must win, two games in Mo'ville. No doubt in my mind we will come out will two W's.

Well, take care all, it's homework time for this guy!

I needed hernia surgery that couldn't wait......

JD here clocking in on the blog,

Been a tough month for me following my surgery. Found out when I went home for Christmas that I needed hernia surgery that couldn't wait. But on a different note it's good to be back up with the boys. You don't realize how much of a family you really have until your gone for an entire month. Hoping I can get back in to the lineup soon, it's going to take a bit of skating to get back in shape but I'm hoping it'll be a fast process.  Well that's all I got for you guys today going to enjoy our Sunday off and watch some all star game hockey. Melks #2 is really enjoying the high scoring of team foligno.

Hang loose,

Nice breakfast with hotel roommates.........

I have just got back from a nice breakfast with hotel roommates Brian Doust and Steven Castriota, with less than 12 hours till our game against Oswego we are getting prepared and forgetting about the tie with Cortland last night, with a team meeting in an hour I am sure we will be ready to play our game come puck drop tonight.  I always have a little extra dislike for Oswego when we play them and would love to get a win on their home ice tonight.  Away from the rink spring semester is finally upon us, the students are all back in Fredonia and the quiet of J-term is gone.  I am looking forward to the challenge of my Spring semester of my Junior year but more excited about the upcoming playoff push of our hockey club.  With a big two points on the line tonight its time for us to get prepared and show Oswego real Fredonia hockey tonight

"had a lot of growth playing on the road in January and we're ready" says Wilkie........

School is finally back in session which also means we've reached the final stretch of the season.  The boys are geared up and ready to go after a very good j term.  We're very excited that our last ten games are all SUNYAC games which we know will be a battle every night.  We had a lot of growth playing on the road in January and we're ready to head in to Cortland and show the Dragons and the rest of our conference that we are a new team.

Off the ice it's  always good to see all of our other friends and students come back to Fred.  It was starting to get a little lonely in town only seeing the same mugs that I see in the dressing room everyday.  However I'm not excited that I already have some homework to do and a couple projects assigned.  I definitely did not miss that part of school.  But all in all I'm excited to kick off the second half off the year.

Until next time,

Flags says its "finally time to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk" to make playoff push........

Hey folks.

School has returned to the Fredonia students for the second half of the year.  I have mixed emotions as I enjoyed J-Term.  It is a big change going from J-Term, being by yourself all the time, to getting back in the rhythm of your daily class schedule.  This second half of the second semester will not only be stressful school wise, but it has come time to make a playoff push.  We are currently outside looking in and it's time to put in the work to make sure our playoff goal can be achieved.  This weekend is by far the biggest weekend of the year for us.  Two wins being back in the SUNYAC would be huge to get us rolling.

Good teams come alive when there is adversity so it's finally time to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

Today will be the last practice before we take the ice against Cortland Friday.  It is going to be a hard working practice today and I can't wait for tomorrow.  Hard work pays off.

Until next time, have a good one, Flags

The playoff push..........

Kauf here,

Returning to the FSU hockey blog for my 4th installment of the year! J-Term has finally wrapped up and the boys are in preparation for SUNYAC play once again as we make our playoff push starting this weekend in Cortland and Oswego, much progress has been made throughout January but in saying that much work still must be done. This also means that our Spring semester has began which seems to fly by quicker each year as the freshman will soon find out. Can't wait to see what the next month and a bit has in store for us as a hockey club!

Cheers,

...."tomorrow starts the last semester of my college career"....

Well tomorrow starts the last semester of my college career, to say the least it's going to be a bitter sweet day. They say these four years go by fast but you don't realize it until they actually happen. Have a nice easy last semester as most of requirements are done so will be able to really focus on these last ten games of the season as we make out play off push. It all starts this weekend with a trip to Cortland and Oswego in two must-win games. Excited to get down there and get going. Check back next week to see how we did! Until next time bloggers

As J-term comes to an end we are looking to finish our Boston weekend with a win against Johnson and Wales. Last night was a tough one to swallow but a lot of positives to build off of. Great performance from freshman Damien to get the guys in a position to win. Tighten up a few aspects and keeping that offence will be something to look to build on tonight. Currently I am finishing up a paper for J-Term in preparation to graduate this spring. Job applications are starting to pile up as its hitting home this is the final stretch of my career. Just looking to finish strong on the ice, time is now to get some W's on the board and try to extended my playing career just that much longer.

Tired but ready for the SUNYAC opener.....

Alright, I'm not gonna lie. I'm tired today cause we had a gongshow trip coming back into Fredonia. I believe we arrived at around 6:30 in the morning from Providence and I have been sleeping for most of the day. The weekend went alright but it would have been great to pull out a win last night at the AHL rink we got to play at! None the less we are looking forward to the SUNYAC games starting this weekend and that's all were focusing on! As for today I'll be watching the football games on tv, although I'll admit they are nowhere near the caliber of the CFL and the Calgary Stampeders. However I'll have to make due. Until next time everybody take care!

Jared Wynia checkin out.

PS - here is a great picture to add to your collection of my good buddy and teammate Mackenzie! I consider him my giant golden retriever.

Damo experiencing J Term for the first time........

Hi everyone, Damo here bringing you another post.

It's been a different experience here in Fredonia during J term. Aside from a couple other sports teams it's a pretty empty campus. Which is weird when you're used to seeing all the students around here. A little bit of peace and quiet isn't a bad thing!

Ever since New Year's Day when we had our first practice back from break, the boys have been ramping it up, for our playoff push. It seems that everyone has bought in and is committed to steering this ship in the same direction! I'm very excited with the direction our team is going. This past weekend we went out to Philly and had 2 games against Neumann University. The first game was an all around good team effort that saw us skate to a 4-2 win. The second game was more tight checking and a real battle. We ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 overtime game. With a few minor tweaks and a couple of really solid practices this week we're ready to head out east again this weekend. To play Curry College and Johnson and Wales University.

It's another cold morning here in Fredonia so it's perfect for a morning skate and then a long bus ride to Massachusetts. But not before a little breakfast at Cranston Marche.

'Sandy' breaks down the kind of guys we have during J TERM..........

Hello everybody, Marcus Andersson here with another blog post!

It’s obvious that all the guys on the team feel more relaxed now during J-term when we can put all our focus on the hockey. I can see it every day. The guys show up early before practice, the guys stay longer on the ice after the practices, and the guys hit the gym when they are done on the ice. It’s great to see.

But despite two practices per day plus workouts, these guys still have a lot of free time. No classes and no homework! What to do instead? I have noticed that there are four different types of guys on the team – and here is the whole list.

1.       The movie guys
This is the most common type. #30 Nick Harper, #3 Jamie Young, #14 Damien “Damo” Kulynych, and #9 Oskar Gerhardson have a Harry Potter-marathon here in the dorms during J-term. Today I told them that I’m not a “Harry Potter-guy” but I’m censoring their responses to that comment here on the blog. Let’s just say that they love their Harry.

2.       The video game guys
A lot of guys like to relax with video games. For example, #10 Blake Forslund and #31 Jeff “Flags” Flagler seem to play video games in their house all the time. I’m also a video game guy, but I would probably be chanceless playing them.

3.       The sleepers
#18 Daniel “Danny Danielson” MÃ¥rtensson said earlier this week, on this blog, that he loves everything about J-term. That is not exactly true. The truth is easier than that – he just loves to sleep.

4.       The hard-worker
#4 Darrin “Darreltini” Trebes does not fit in under any of these categories. He both works and takes classes during J-term. That guy never rests and we all have big hopes for Mr Trebes.

But what is interesting here is, that no matter in what category the guys are, we all have one thing in common: when we come to the rink, we are all well-prepared and ready to go. That’s why I’m convinced that we will keep playing great this upcoming weekend – Curry College and Johnson & Wales University away – and when we do, nothing can stop us. The movie guys, the video game guys, the sleepers and the hard-worker all come together to one unit that just keeps going forward. I know that we have an interesting spring coming up!

Now I will go next door and wake #18 up to play some video games.

Until next time,

#11 Marcus “Sandy” Andersson

Harps comes up big on Monday and loves the Ducks..........

Hey hockey fans, Nick Harper here for another blog post.

Sunday night I got to witness some hockey history. Growing up I've always been an Anaheim Ducks fan and loved watching Teemu Selänne. Sunday night the Ducks retired Teemu's number and held a big ceremony for him before they played his former team the Winnipeg Jets. I enjoyed watching his old highlights and listening to his humble speech he gave the fans. It was also nice that Anaheim got the shootout win after overcoming a two goal deficit.

This weekend we head to play Curry College Friday, and then Johnson and Wales Saturday. Should be two well fought games as both teams are looking for revenge against us. These are also our last two games before we return to SUNYAC play and continue our push to the playoffs!

That's all from me today thanks for reading,

Danny loves J-Term.........

Hi everybody, it’s Daniel here again.
We just got back after a weekend in Aston, PA after two good games against Neumann. One at 7pm Friday night and the second one at 3pm Saturday afternoon. Friday night we won 4-2 but our win streak broke after an overtime loss on Saturday.
Upcoming we have 3 days of good practice before we head off to start a new streak when we play Milton, Mass to play Curry on Friday night and then go to Johnson & Wales Saturday.
It is a little bit different with J-term here, I am not used to that there is barely any people here and the dining hall is calm and quiet, no lines to get food or anything. The best part of J-term is that there is so much time focusing on hockey and not have to worry about school.
That was all for me, until next time have a great rest of the J-term and a good start of the spring semester!

Harry Potter marathons..........

Hi there Fredonia fans,

Jamie Young checking in here for another blog post on the year!! I hope all of your New Years have started as well as ours here in Fredonia!! The boys came back from break rested, excited, and ready to give it all for our second half playoff push. Right from the first day of 2015 it's been apparent that everyone wearing the Blue and White has been all in for getting this team to reach its full potential.

The Devils took care of Southern New Hampshire in our first tilt of the new year followed up by a huge team win against Neumann last night as well. We've got a big test ahead of us this afternoon against the Knights again as we try to sweep the weekend series here in Philadelphia.

The start of my first J term on campus has been an eye opening experience for me. It's pretty crazy going from seeing a bunch of people on campus everyday to just a select few in Cranston for meals. I can't complain though, after all the practice and workouts the boys in Igoe hall have been enjoying some Harry Potter marathons!! It's been great to finally get back with all the guys after some well spent time at home with my family.

Well Fredonia fans, it's always great catching up, until next time!!

On the road........

Hi everybody, freshman Oskar Gerhardson here again. Feels good to be back to the start the second half of the season. I had a great Christmas break and can't wait to start our playoff run.

The team just got off the ice after a good morning skate and now we are heading back to the hotel for some rest and food before the game tonight against Neumann college.

Yesterday we got on the bus and traveled 7 hours down to Aston, PA. A few good movies including "when the game stands tall" and "mystery Alaska " was shown on the screens. Both movies were motivating and inspiring, hopefully we can bring that with us into the two games weekend.

The boys are eager to get on that ice tonight to claim another victory!

Until next time,

Oskar Gerhardson #9

Hello from Kurt in 2015.......

Hey there hockey fans!

It's defenseman #6 Kurt Gottschalk in for today's blog post.

It's been a good few days getting our first win under our belt in this new year against Southern New Hampshire. I think this was a very important win, getting the team off to a good start. Next we have two games against Neumann coming up on the calendar.

On another note, I hope everyone had a great winter break getting to see their families and being able to relax. I think this break was a special one because as myself and some of my teammates are of Canadian background it was certainly very nice seeing the Canadian World juniors win gold.

Thanks for tuning in. Till next time.

Darrin checking in after a big win!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, Darrin Trebes signing in here.

It was great to get the win streak going last night with a strong 7-1 victory over the Southern New Hampshire Penman. This was a non-league game, but it is important for us to get ready for when the SUNYAC games start again. The boys start our win streak now as we go on our road trip to Neumann. This is the best time for us to be playing our best hockey because we want to finish the season strong. Ever since we hit the ice at 9 am on New Year’s Day, all of the boys have been determined to have a strong second half. We just had another great practice to send us into the weekend at Neumann and only great things will happen when everyone is playing their best hockey. Tomorrow we have a morning skate to before we go on the bus and head to Neumann. Now it is time for me to start packing for the road trip, until next time.

Eisey says, "bring the family out tonight"..........

It's game day here in Fredonia!

The boys are very anxious to get back in action after a couple weeks off. Tonight's opponent is the Southern New Hampshire Penman. This game is out of league but still is  treated like any SUNYAC meat grinder game. The practices leading up to this game have been great, a lot of hoot and hollering and positive vibes!

If you're not doing anything bring the family and come support the Devils
as they are go off to battle.

Eiserman signing off.

Macker...."it's been busy".........

Almost Game Time!

Hello Folks Sophomore Forward Mackenzie McAvoy tuning into today's blog for you.

Its been a very busy couple of days here back in Fredonia since getting back from the Holiday Break. Our days have consisted of a couple days of 2-a-day practices and work outs as well. I believe that the Break has given our team a chance to recharge their batteries, and come out strong the second half of our season. It all starts on Tuesday when we face off at home against southern New Hampshire College.

I must say that the weather has been a little more forgiving this year (knock on wood), we haven't really had a lot of snow so far and it hasn't been as cold either.

Beside the weather being pretty good, were hoping to start the second half off good as well with a strong start, and I know all the boys are getting ready for Tuesdays contest, as well as all the road trips we have coming up over the break.

Well I better get going to practice now, until next time!

Whitey ready for second half.......

Hello bloggers, Zach White here checking in for another blog post.

After the boys got back at it on new years day we have done nothing but build on every practice that we have had.  I think the break came at the perfect time for us as a group because everyone seems recharged and fresh for the home stretch of our season.  With our Saturday afternoon and Sunday off a lot of us will be watching the NFL playoff games and mixing in a bit of recovery from the past few days of battle.  We will be back at it Monday as we direct our attention to winning a game against Southern New Hampshire and start a winning streak.

Hopefully the New Years will bring success to our team as we look to turn things around.  Wish us luck.

                                    Happy New Years!

PS – to my mother, I got a 3.0 ...... I’m goanna be on coach’s door!!!!!

Hey guys Forsy signing in here after another day back at Fredonia.  It’s our third day back from break and I’m pretty happy about being back on the ice and in the gym.  I think I ate about 150 short break cookies while being back at home.  Over the past few days we have being practicing twice a day as we prepare for the upcoming game on Tuesday, I must say the boys are looking good especially the bangers.  Today we had the afternoon off and that resulted in a friendly little poker game.  I hate to brag but I got the win today after a long fought game.  To be completely honest I’m enjoying the first few days of J term.  I mean what’s not to like, I wake up head to the rink and the best part is I don’t have any of that pesky school to deal with.  Anyways I’m heading to bed, Forsy signing off.
PS – to my mother, 3.0 I’m goanna be on coach’s board.
